Slip all 120 8-inch-long pieces of wood on to your threaded steel rod. Cut off the excess amount of the steel rod, making sure to leave yourself enough room to screw on a second castle nut. Screw on the second castle nut and make sure that both castle nuts, at the top and bottom, are nice and snug.
Cut the tapers for your homemade wood spinner. Lay your project on a flat surface and use a ruler and a pencil to mark where you will make your cuts for the tapers. Start wide at the center and taper up to the top. Repeat the same with the bottom half. Before you make your cuts, make sure that your marking reflects the project being the widest in the middle while tapering at both the top and the bottom.
Drill an 1/8 inch hole into your threaded steel rod. The hole should be drilled just above the castle nut. Attach your spiral key ring to the project through the 1/8 drilled hole in the threaded steel rod.
Loosen one of the castle nuts just a bit. Spin the wooden pieces gently until they resemble the typical store-bought wood spinners then tighten your castle nut again until it is nice and snug.
Hang your new homemade wood spinner with chain, nylon cord or fishing line. Attach a fishing spinner at the top so that your wood wind spinner can spin freely without tangling. Good luck!
